Increasing Affordable Housing

•The Rent Control Reform Amendment Act of 2006 (A16-391) preventing a landlord from raising the rent of a vacant rental unit by more than 10%. The Act also protects your right to information by requiring the housing provider to disclose important information regarding current and previous rent increases.
•The Rental Housing Conversion and Sale Amendment Act of 2005 (A16-89), which gives tenants the opportunity to purchase their home before it’s transferred to a new owner.
•The Right of Tenants to Organize Amendment Act of 2006 (A16-458) ensuring tenants can organize freely.
•The DC Housing Authority Rent Supplement Act of 2006 (B16-661/A16-663) to establish a rent supplement program to help private and non-profit housing providers offer affordable rents to low-income families [DC Code 6-201 (2006)]
Brown also supports the Own Your Home Act of 2007 (B17-33) to provide tenants of public housing the ability to purchase their current homes according to the Home Ownership Plan.
